IP Group Australia appoints new members to high-profile advisory steering group

IP Group, whose mission is to evolve great ideas into world-changing businesses, announced today the appointment of two new, high-profile members to the company’s key advisory group.
IP Group, which recently completed its 12th investment in the commercialisation of Australian university research, has appointed to the Steering Group finance and business expert Genevieve Gregor, and Professor Peter Hoj, Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Adelaide and previously Vice-Chancellor of the University of Queensland.
The other, current members of the Group are former Woodside CEO John Akehurst, former Cochlear CEO Chris Roberts, and former Future Fund CEO Mark Burgess.
The Managing Director of IP Group Australia, Michael Molinari, said the new appointments to the Group brought additional business and academic expertise and experience, which would greatly benefit the company’s growing portfolio of investments in Australia and New Zealand.
“Genevieve and Peter bring decades of experience in different fields to the team, and their contribution will be extremely valuable in further strengthening IP Group’s mission,” Dr Molinari said.
Professor Hoj AC was CEO of The Australian Wine Research Institute and of the Australian Research Council before becoming Vice -Chancellor of The University of South Australia and later, The University of Queensland.
He served on the CSIRO Board and was a member of the Prime Minister’s Science Engineering and Innovation Council and of the Australian Medical Research Advisory Board. He is currently a Trustee of the Australian Cancer Research Foundation.
Ms Gregor is a Founding Partner of Colinton Capital Partners and was previously the co-head and Managing Director of the Asia Special Situations Group in Australia for Goldman Sachs for eight years.
She is also Chair of Freedom Foods, and Non-Executive Director of Clear Dynamics Software and, until recently, was the Deputy Chancellor of Western Sydney University, Chair of the Finance and Investment Committee and Trustee at WSU for over 10 years.
Professor Hoj said he was delighted to join a dedicated team of professionals devoted to investing in and nurturing companies that aimed to improve the economic and social wellbeing of Australia and NZ.
“The work IP Group is doing to support breakthrough innovation coming out of Australia’s best academic institutions is inspirational, and I am very pleased to be able to join its Steering Group, which provides the company with general guidance and advice,” he said.
Ms Gregor added: “As the COVID 19 emergency has demonstrated, research will be the key to a healthier and more sustainable future, which is why it so important to provide our university researchers with the funding, guidance and expertise that is at the heart of the IP Group offering.”
IP Group has signed agreements to help commercialise research with the Group of Eight universities - The University of Adelaide, Australian National University, University of Melbourne, Monash University, UNSW, University of Queensland, University of Sydney, University of Western Australia – as well as the University of Auckland.
IP Group has committed to investing more than $200 million over the next decade in world-changing technologies developed by Australian and New Zealand universities.
